The creation of Leamside Equestrian will provide the competitve rider and small breeder with the facilities required to breed, produce, compete and enjoy top level horses.
Our aims and objectives are quite simple and bring together a host of support tools for the equestrian. In the North we have little exposure as far as equestrian facilities, trainers and support. True enthisiasts travel far and wide in search of the support required for their disciplines. |
|
| Leamside Equestrian is an established family business. Beverley has been riding since she was 5 years old and has competed in Dressage, Eventing and showing. With an interest in breeding from an early age she spent a number of years working and visiting stud farms all over the world. It was through this that she decided that the UK lacked the facilities, skills and support framework for the small breeder to achieve desired results. With this in mind the Browns searched endlessly for a place that they could turn into a recognised breeding and producing facility for quality sports horses and ponies. |
|
Beverley had a keen interest in Eventing and Dressage and so for over 25 years she has been learning how to breed and produce horses. Whilst Beverley has had her own horses all her life she was never keen to compete finding fulfilment in producing the best she could from the horses she had. In most instances she had difficult or misunderstood horses that required a sensitive approach.
Having spent many years working with such horses she decided to concentrate on breeding a horse for herself incorporating all the qualities she desired.. hopefully achieving that aim. Of course many of you that have bred will find that once you have made the transition from owner to breeder that it takes over your life and your passion develops.
For us our passion developed into a business and we decided that we would provide the facilities for others to achieve the same goal. In trying to breed her own horse Beverley had to overcome some major obstacles which living in the north brought. Mainly lack of facilities, support and the access to quality stallions, trainers and producing facilities. |
|
Leamside Equestrian was created in 2005 with the aim to breed, produce, top quality sports horses in facilities that would support such an aim. Having visited many countries that have achieved great things in breeding Beverley hoped to bring back fresh ideas to incorporate into her breeding plans. Many long trips abroad through her work meant that there was plenty time to learn from other countries about bloodlines, breeding plans, the future of the sport horse. Attending many seminars and lectures on the mechanics of the horse, care of the sport horse, recuperation care following injury. Care of the broodmare, foal, stallion handling and care were all undertaken to ensure that current practices were adhered to.
It is important when looking into breeding that you are up to date with current trends, the modern sport horse, the breeding plans of the various studbooks in order that you can plan and cater for the future market. After all what you decide today in selection of your broodmare herd will need to provide your stud with the qualities to develop with a variety of stallions over many years. Then on choosing your stallion it is a long time from conception to maturity so you need to ensure that what you are breeding will be required and considered fashionable in 3 years time. Planning is an essential part of breeding and a 10 year plan is not uncommon. Of course as each year passes and the new foals arrive each year you have to re-evaluate and think on your feet. Many many questions are asked - did I achieve the quality I set out to? Was the combination a surprise? Were the results of the breeding match what was expected? Would I do it again? What could I do better? Most of all am I pleased with what I have produced? |
